why the name?

kalibre (/kəˈliːbreɪ/ kuh-LEE-bray) is a misspelling of the German kaliber, itself the root of the English word calibre, as in "high-calibre". that is deliberate: that's how you know i own the app.

also, the "libre" part of the name actually means as it does in libre software: free referring to liberty, not cost like free beer.
(although, it technically also is free in cost.)

the official shorthand kb doubles as the obvious abbreviation for keyboard. that felt right for a tool built around one.

why does it exist?

kalibre started as a personal project, a way to train on the specific mistakes i kept making, and the mistakes i would make, rather than running the same drills. the mistake map, the adaptive drilling, the sustained accuracy mode: all of it came from wanting something that learned my patterns.

i use it in development too, beyond testing features 'cause typing through something i already wrote is a good way to sit with it.

fun fact: i actually enjoy typing tests in sustained mode!
